Social media is both a delightful way to pass time and a never-ending rabbit hole of visual stimuli. This week's Top Ten Tuesday's topic was to list characters you'd follow on social media which I thought would fun to create. I'm choosing Instagram as my social media of choice because I personally spend way too much time on the app and have partially sold my life to the discover tab...it's a bit of a problem.

alice - the hazelwood - @aliceprosperine
I don't know if Alice would have the time in her adventure to document her findings, especially if she's constantly stalked by the Hinterland, but if she did I think she'd have a very hauntingly beautiful green-themed feed.

maia - spin the dawn - @starsandscissors
Maia would have such a gorgeous feed featuring all her different creations and of course her golden scissors. When she eventually gets some free time, she'd probably also include some fun family photos or some beautiful mountains.

nadya - all the wicked saints - @candlesandchants
Nadya pre-monastery attack would have a very calming feed that documented her everyday routine and maybe even the pranks she'd like to pull on the monks. Post-attack would be a different story but could be a place where she documents her personal struggles with her faith.

tea - the bone witch - @ladydeath
I think Tea's feed would honestly be aesthetic goals - from the beautiful asha dresses and events to her exile, she'd manage to make feed awe-inspiring. I think she'd also definitely include some cute photos of the daeva pre and post resurrections.

sarai - strange the dreamer - @museofmoths
Sarai would probably use her account to post philosophical thoughts and/or reflections of the dreams and nightmares she created. She would also have some beautiful pictures of Weep from above though her account would probably have to be private (pre-Muse of Nightmares) to avoid being discovered.

These were the first that came to mind and I actually had a lot of fun finding pictures online to put together a hypothetical feed for these characters.
Who would you follow on Instagram and what would they post about?

It is already February 20th and I have yet to read a single book. In all honesty, I've just been so busy cause this month I've taken over all my teacher's classes so the lesson planning has been a lot to handle. It is currently February break and my thoughts of reading tons and tons of books have faded away because of my sheer lack of motivation to do anything but sleep and eat (catching up on rest and nutrition take priority).

I have, however, recently gotten approved for a ton of exciting books on NetGalley, all of which I would potentially like to read sometime this month and into the next. What better way to hold myself mildly accountable than to share them in a post and for an extra fun factor see if I can match them up to some songs I've been listening to lately.

scream to the gods

My thing with sequels seems to be that I always take the long way to get to them. I've had this on my TBR almost as long as I've had the first book and I really need to stop putting it off. From where we last left off, there's a lot of making others scream and wanting to scream and that fits quite well with Dreamcatcher's new title track - there's also a switch in the song's lyrics about taking back control of yourself which I think is a pretty accurate description of the story.

so what, who cares what they say?

This one I've actually started and so far the main character is giving me huge "so what" vibes - she owns her personality and outsider status like a boss. LOONA's title track is all about not caring what others think of you and carving your own path which I definitely think will be explored more as the story continues to unfold and the adventure begins.

you're so done

Everglow has completely wrecked me out of the blue with this comeback because I am honestly obsessed with this song. Where Dreams Descend is pitched as a Caraval and Night Circus mix so you know it's all about to the intrigue and magic of the circus with the intensity of super high stakes and a game of talent. I haven't even started reading this yet and I can already picture the contestants going at each other with Dun Dun blasting through the speakers.

at the crossroads of life
Image result for crossroads gfriendImage result for harley in the skyI love Akemi Dawn Bowman's novels because they are raw and beautiful depictions of what it means to grow up. Gfriend's new title track also portrays the struggles of approaching life's crossroads and having to make difficult decisions on what path to follow on. Judging from the summary, our main character decides to take some risks with her life and the scariness of making those choices can definitely be intertwined with Crossroads' lyrics.
taking control of your fiesta
Image result for the court of miracles kester grantImage result for fiesta izone albumI was a little torn on this because the novel itself is a retelling of Les Miserables from Eponine's perspective and I*ZONE's Fiesta didn't seem like a good fit. However, with the help of Google, I found the English translations for the song and I actually think the two work quite well together. Fiesta is all about taking ownership of your life even if the results are unexpected which I think can describe Eponine's journey pretty well. I'm also in complete love with that cover so both of these are top-tier visuals.

What are you currently listening to and do they happen to correlate with anything you're reading?

Happy February! I meant to get this up much earlier in the month but student teaching has been quite busy, fun but definitely busy. Despite the few hours of sleep and constant state of tired, I managed to read five books in January which is loads more than I would have anticipated and I'm quite happy with the results.

wicked saints by emily a duncan | 4 stars
prayers, blood, and ravens
This book was darker than I originally anticipated and I loved every moment of it. All the characters are pretty much morally ambiguous which just adds to the intrigue of the story. I was really surprised by how quickly I became invested in the story which just proves how intricately developed the world itself is.

rebellions and disguises
I was intrigued by, first of all, that gorgeous cover but secondly by the synopsis - a fantasy inspired by Bolivian history? Yes please. The story itself was well presented but I couldn't connect with the characters as much as I would have liked, leaving me feeling detached emotionally from the story.

blood countess by lana popović | 3 stars
beauty breeds cruelty
Female inspiration of Count Dracula was all I needed to hear to pick up this one. I actually quite enjoyed the historical aspect of the story, learning about how the Countess manipulated those around her, and it was interesting to read the events from the perspective of her lover. At the end, I wasn't emotionally invested in the story and I guess part of me wished for a bit more "spook."

the book of unknown americans by cristina henríquez | 3 stars
the stories of lives we rarely hear about
My friend read this for her Immigrant Lit class and has been telling me to pick it up since. The stories are incredibly powerful and relevant, especially in our current situation, and portrays the spectrum of humanity in a beautiful and sometimes heartbreaking way. My only caveat is that I wish we could have delved more into each individual story though I did appreciate how many stories we got to hear that we rarely get the chance to experience.

redemption and justice?
110% impulse click on NetGalley - I had just read another Karina Halle book at the end of last year and wanted something quick and fun. While I haven't read the previous books, this story is essentially a redemption love story where a previously horrible character gets a second chance and a happy ending. Good feels but also comes with trigger warnings for rape/sexual assault.
